Friends of Paisley Abbey

Scottish Charity Number SC016574

Who we are

The Society of Friends of Paisley Abbey was founded in 1951 to support the care of Paisley Abbey and the Place of Paisley, including its adornment and furnishing; the maintenance of music, the encouragement of research into the history of the Abbey, and any project connected with the maintenance or improvement of the Abbey and the Place of Paisley.

What we do

Today, the Friends are a unique community who enjoy supporting the Abbey’s music, heritage, art and fabric of the building. The funds they raise are invested to provide added resilience to the many challenges the Abbey has to deal with in its custodianship of one of the great mediaeval buildings of Scotland as a place of active worship.

How do I join?

“If you would like to become a Friend of Paisley Abbey, please email [email protected] with “Friends of Paisley Abbey” in the Title box and we will send you details of payment methods.

The subscription is currently £22 per annum.”

How is my membership used?

Friends membership subscriptions provide a vital contribution towards the running of the Abbey, including assisting with our world-class music, the conservation of our historic fabric, and historical research.

Latest News

The exceptional service to the Society of Friends of Paisley Abbey given by past Vice Chairman Walter Reid was recognised with the presentation to him of a Paisley Abbey quaich, engraved with “for many years of faithful service to the Friends of Paisley Abbey”.

Walter (left) is pictured here receiving his quaich from Chairman of the Society, Gordon Masterton OBE DL. Costs were covered by donations from Council Members. The Chairman said “We’d have liked to have specified the number of years that Walter had freely given to the Society, but it was so long that it predated our accessible records. We will miss his legal knowledge and sage advice. His impact on the Society has been hugely beneficial.”
